Through the Cross, God demonstrated His character and love to us. 1 John 4:10 relates this beautifully: “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” The fundamental essence of God’s character is selfless, other-centered love. His love is pursuing and relentless, touching our lives in every aspect. But do we realize this? Are we daily transformed by this passionate love that moved Heaven to rescue us? Do we understand what truly took place at the Cross? Our world is wrapped in darkness and the shadows of the sinful night. Often times we live as if the Cross is only a dismal, dark event in this world’s history with no hope for us. We live as if God were a tyrant-- unwilling to forgive; we live as if God’s love was not enough to save us. What if we saw the Cross and Christ’s sufferings as that which brings light, hope, power, and salvation to the darkness of the world and to our lives? What if we saw in the Cross God’s full, unending love for us, the completeness of the plan of Salvation for us, and the character of God revealed? When we understand the Cross in its true light, we see there revealed the love, glory, and power of God. When studied, the Biblical account of Jesus’ death sweeps away the shadows that have encompassed the Cross to reveal a gleaming light: the love of God. We realize that the Light to the darkness of this world is the Cross. Join us at the 2019 GYC Northwest Convention and discover the depth, height, and breadth of the love that God has for you.
